Government Moves to Close a Watchdog of For-Profit Colleges (via Pocket)

The Education Department on Thursday moved to shut down the nation’s largest accreditor of for-profit colleges, which had stood watch as failing institutions like Corinthian Colleges and ITT Technical Institute teetered on a pileup of fraud investigations.

Downfall of ITT Technical Institutes Was a Long Time in the Making

Doors were bolted shut and parking lots emptied at ITT Technical Institutes around the country this week after the chain of for-profit colleges announced it was closing for good. At some campuses, though, this was not the first time students and employees found themselves locked out.
